6) Can my students access the digital resources for my magazine?
Yes. Students can log in to your magazine’s website at home, in a computer lab, or on classroom computers using a Student Password.
Logging in with a Student Password will take students to the Student View, where they will not see or have access to teacher-specific information, such as the Teacher’s Edition or answer keys.
7) Where do I find my Student Password?
We have provided a default Student Password that will always take students to the current issue of your magazine. To find your default Student Password, click on the “My Profile/Student Passwords” link just under the welcome message where your name appears after you have logged in.
You may also create Student Passwords for past issues. Click on the “My Profile/Student Passwords” link just under the welcome message where your name appears after you have logged in. Then follow the instructions under Student Password Management to create, change, or delete Student Passwords.
8) What is the Student View?
In the Student View, students see and can interact with a complete digital issue of the magazine, but do not see or have access to teacher-specific information, such as the Teacher’s Edition or answer keys.
There are two ways to access the Student View: by logging in as a student using a Student Password, or by clicking on the yellow “Go to Student View” button on the upper right of your magazine’s home page. If you access the Student View from the yellow button, you can return to the Teacher View by clicking on the red “Back to Teacher View” button on the upper left.
9) How do my students log in?
Share your Student Password for the current issue or a past issue. Students will enter the password in the student log-in area of your magazine’s home page. They will be prompted to select their state, school, and your class name to complete the log-in process. (Once logged in, they will be in the Student View, where they will not see or have access to teacher-specific information.)
You may provide your Student Password and log-in instructions to parents so students can use your magazine’s digital resources at home. We’ve provided a printable letter for you to send home so that you can easily share the information. You’ll find a link to the letter on your Profile page (click on “My Profile/Student Passwords” just below your name after you’ve logged in).
10) How can I create or change my Student Passwords?
Once you’ve logged in to your magazine’s website, click on the “My Profile/Student Passwords” just below your name.
Then follow the instructions under Student Password Management to create, change, or delete Student Passwords for past issues.
11) How do I download and print PDFs?
Some browsers are set to save PDFs in a temporary location, which may be hard to locate. To view the documents you download, change your browser’s “Download” settings or identify the folder to which your browser saves documents. It may be called “Downloads” in your “My Documents” folder. Once you have opened the PDF in your browser or Adobe Acrobat, you may choose to print the file.
12) Why isn’t the quiz inside my digital issue interactive?
Only certain quizzes and activities inside the digital issue are interactive. These can be used as self-assessments. You may use your interactive whiteboard markers to complete noninteractive quizzes inside the digital issue.
13) Can I teach an issue of the magazine after the website has been updated to a new issue?
Yes! Your complete digital issues—with all their related assets—remain available to you all year in your Magazine Archive. Simply click on the Magazine Archive button on the left side of your magazine’s logged-in home page. You will see a thumbnail image of each issue. You may search the archive by issue date or by keyword. Click on the thumbnail image to access the digital issue and all its related assets.
14) How do I access a video for a prior issue of my magazine?
All of the videos as well as the complete digital issues of your Scholastic classroom magazine are available within the Magazine Archive. Simply click the “Magazine Archive” button on the home page.
You will see a thumbnail image of each issue. You may search the archive by issue date or by keyword. Click on the thumbnail image to access the digital issue and all its related assets.
15) Where can I find my Teaching Resources?
Look for the Teaching Resources button on the upper left of your magazine’s home page.
Click on this button to find a downloadable version of your print Teacher’s Edition, as well as other teaching resources for each issue.
16) How do I use the “Show All Pages” tool on my interactive whiteboard?
If you are using an interactive whiteboard, touch the screen above or below the pages to scroll the digital issues. Touching the left side of the screen, above or below the page icons, will scroll toward the left; touching the right side of the screen, above or below the page icons, will scroll toward the right.
17) How can I enable pop-ups (or turn off my pop-up blocker)?
Scholastic Classroom Magazines websites require that you enable pop-ups in your browser settings. If you see the message “Did You Notice the Information Bar?” use the pull-down menu and select “Always allow pop-ups from this site.”
18) Why can't I print the digital issue of my Scholastic classroom magazine?
Because your magazine’s digital resources are a supplement to your print subscription, pages from the digital issues are not printable. You may print skills sheets (“Printables”) as well as your Teacher’s Edition. Some magazines also offer alternate-level versions of certain articles within their digital issues. These alternate-level articles are printable.
19) How can I find my saved digital sticky notes?
You have the ability to save digital sticky notes within the digital issues of your magazine. Click the Digital Sticky Notes icon on the toolbar and type in a note. That note will be saved on your Profile page and in that issue. Click on “My Profile/Student Passwords.” You may hide your notes so they are not visible after you have saved them.
20) Why is the issue taking a very long time to load?
The loading time will vary depending on a user’s Internet connection and the number of teachers accessing the same issue simultaneously.
If your computer does not load all pages of an issue, select the “Show All Pages” icon in the toolbar and select any page of the digital issue. This icon is to the left of the “Home” icon. When you select a specific page, it will load that page more quickly and continue to load the rest of the digital issue.
21) How do I get to a story’s alternate reading level?
Some magazines also offer alternate-level versions of certain articles within their digital issues. Locate the “Level” or “Lexile” button to toggle between different versions of the article. Alternate-level versions are printable.
Consult the User’s Guide on your magazine’s home page for more information on this resource.
22) Why am I having trouble playing the videos?
Many school networks do not have enough bandwidth for many students to play the same video simultaneously. The video performance will vary depending on your Internet connection and the number of users accessing digital resources simultaneously.
If you are able to access your magazine’s website prior to teaching, you can load the video into the memory of your computer in advance. Simply click the video button and then press pause. The pause button is on the bottom left of the video-player toolbar. The pause button toggles between pause and play. When the video player is in the paused mode, the video will continue to load. When you are ready to begin your lesson, simply press play to begin the video.
You can load the video a few minutes prior to a lesson or hours in advance.
