Many visitors pack instant ramen for lunch or a snack while exploring Hallasan National Park in South Korea. But that’s become a problem: People have been dumping their leftover soup on the ground and in waterways—up to 117 liters (31 gallons) of it a day!
Ramen broth contains a lot of salt, which can harm the area’s protected plants and wildlife. Plus, the soup’s scent attracts pests, such as crows and weasels, looking for food.
After noodling over the issue, park officials are encouraging visitors to bring just a half serving of ramen. And there are now containers where they can discard any remaining broth.
