Supporting Social Emotional Learning
Supporting Social Emotional Learning
Social and emotional learning (SEL) refers to helping students develop a variety of nonacademic skills, namely helping them better understand their emotions and build empathy for others. SEL has been getting much attention in recent years because research has shown that children exposed to SEL programs have healthier attitudes and behavior, exhibit improved social and emotional skills, and perform better academically.
In Science World, we embed social and emotional learning into every story, so your students are always learning to empathize with others, maintain relationships, manage emotions, and make responsible choices. Every story is intentionally crafted to champion inclusion and support student empowerment and equity with science.
Some lesson plans in our Digital Resource Guides also include SEL prompts that you can use with your students. Each SEL prompt is denoted by a heart symbol.
