Speed Racer
ZOOM! The car reached 62 mph after traveling just 98 feet.
Meet the world’s fastest-accelerating car. Last June, the electric vehicle set a Guinness World Record by going from 0 to 100 kilometers (0 to 62 miles) per hour in just 1.5 seconds. Thirty students at the Academic Motorsports Club Zurich in Switzerland designed the car, named Grimsel.
The 168 kilogram (370 pound) car is made mostly of a lightweight yet strong material called carbon fiber. Four 200-horsepower motors provide speed. An onboard computer system controls the traction of each wheel to help the car grip the road and quickly zoom forward.
