Future Mars Rover
This year, a new kind of Mars rover toured the East Coast of the U.S. The rover isn’t headed for Mars anytime soon, though. It’s a concept vehicle showcasing technologies that astronauts could use to roam the Red Planet in the future.
NASA scientists helped design the vehicle to inspire the next generation of space explorers, says Rebecca Shireman, a spokesperson at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, which commissioned the rover. “Experts estimate that the first person to set foot on Mars has already been born and is likely in school now,” says Shireman. The rover has returned to the visitor complex, where it awaits a meeting with a future driver. Maybe you’ll take it for a spin someday!
