Current LEGO packaging

Kids all over the world wrote letters to LEGO®, asking the company to ditch its plastic packaging. Now, the Danish toy maker is making a switch. Going forward, it will start packing its iconic bricks in recyclable paper bags and plans to make all packaging completely eco-friendly by 2025.

Single-use items, like the plastic pouches some toys come in, usually can’t be recycled and instead get tossed in the trash after one use. That plastic can last a long time in the environment, which causes problems for animals, people, and the planet. “We have been exploring alternatives [to plastic packaging] for some time,” announced Niels Christiansen, LEGO’s chief executive officer. “And the passion and ideas from children inspired us to begin to make the change.”
