Teen Auto Repair Shop
COURTESY OF RILEY’S REBUILDS
BUILDING A BUSINESS: Riley Schlick runs a carburetor-repair business called Riley’s Rebuilds.
When Riley Schlick was 13 years old, she wanted to earn money to buy a car. Riley’s dad had taught her to repair carburetors, a car part found mainly in older vehicles. So the Florida teen opened a business: Riley’s Rebuilds.
Carburetors mix air and fuel and send it to a car’s engine. A grimy carburetor can prevent a vehicle from working properly. Riley takes apart dirty carburetors, cleans the pieces, and rebuilds them. Her business charges $145 and up for each job. In a few months, Riley had saved up enough money to buy a Jeep. “Business is good,” says Riley, now 17. Riley’s Rebuilds currently repairs about 20 carburetors per week!
